This is for all you all people who get the general idea of roleplaying, but aren't exactly sure. ^__^
The Basics and Introductions of Roleplaying for Beginners.
Section I: What is Roleplaying?
Roleplaying, or rp for short, is a custom-made adventure that is played out by two or more people. It is a fun way me, denephew, Gtkmasters, Katiekitten, and Skippy spend time and get to know each other more.
Section II: The Essentials of Roleplaying
The most important piece you need to roleplay with are characters. Characters are what re-enact the story you and others create. They can be based on characters from movies, tv shows, anime, manga, books, computer games, anything! If you feel none of those suit your fancy you can create your own character from scratch. They can be male or female, animal or human, bold or timid, peaceful and prosperous to chaotic and killer. Characters are what play out the adventure!
*Tip* Most people appreciate I when you invent characters on your own, it adds originality to the group.*End Tip*
Section III: How to Post in a Roleplay
To post in a roleplay topic you need to make a clear and precise post, something at least a sentence long.
Example of a bad post: Krystalblood looks at a tree wondering.
Example of a good post: Krystalblood looks curiously at a strange tree, wondering what fruit it bore and wondered how old it might be. She even might consider making arrows from its many branches.
Also, roleplaying is generally done in either first-person view{Going through the story through a character's eyes and using words like "I, me, and us"} or third-person view{Watching the story in an out-of-body experience and using words like "Them, he, she , it or your character's name}. Either is acceptable but please don't switch between them inbetween posts or you'll confuse your fellow rpers.
A good post can make readers generally interested and want to read more. Remember, put a few adjectives here and there to spice up a dull post!
Section III and a half: Being Literate
Being literate means making your post legible. Do not put your post in full caps, full lower-case or a mix between. Try to spell correctly so other people have an idea of what you're saying. Put proper punctuation where needed, like colons, periods, commas, quotations and apostrephes.
Example of a bad post: what dop you thionk asked krystalblood curouslt
Example of a good post: "What do you think?" Krystalblood asked curiously.
Although people can get the general idea from the first post, it looks just plain sloppy.
Section IV: Rules of Roleplay
Like many forums roleplaying has it's rules and regulations.
1.) No God-powering(moding)
No godpowering means no controlling other characters. You cannot so much as make another character blink without breaking this rule. It lets others have a chance at varying the story to their tastes as well.
2.) Be Literate
Check section three and a half
3.) No immense romance or extreme goryness and bloodiness. As you will read from some of the topics in the roleplay forum there can be battles but up to a certain degree. There can be very minor swear words, but please remember that other, littler kids can come on this forum as well.
4.) No Power-Playing(Pping for short)
Power-playing means making yourself VERY powerful. Avoid this as you make yourself an advantage over other players.
5.) Have fun!
Section V: Being Polite
To make sure you don't anger others who are trying to roleplay, be polite!
When being polite,
1.) Talk in either (regular parenthesis) or {fancy brackets} when not re-enacting a story in action. It confuses others if you don't.
2.) Try not to give yourself an advantage or embarrass or humiliate others.
Section VI: Wrapping Up
If you can remember these simple rules you're ready to enter the world of roleplaying! Once you get used to it, it is a fun experience for yourself and others.
